Disco Gufram

Sofas with Attitude

We were so happy to undertake this very special collaboration with legendary Italian brand Gufram

Throughout its more than 50-year history Gufram has helped revolutionise the domestic landscape playing a key role in shaping the history of international design. The company is known for radical and iconic sculptural works thanks to its use of polyurethane foam, a material that offers almost endless possibilities, so we were thrilled to join forces to create a high impact collection of upholstered, modular sofas inspired by one of the most important social contexts of our times – the disco.

Meet Stanley, Jimmy, Charly, Betsy and Tony, an eclectic group of friends ready for a night out at Disco Gufram

Think ’90s rap music videos and overcrowded limousines. Cross that with the opulence of a mega home cinema and you start to get close to Stanley. Available in a number of configurations from armchair to 4 seater with inbuilt chaise longue and mirror panelling in sumptuous deep velvet tones, Stanley represents outlandishly unashamed self-indulgence.

Jimmy is the most bling in the gang. Available in gold, silver or bronze metallic leather the divan can be concave or convex or a combination of the two to create a variety of compositions.

Charly is the punk of the party. Inspired by the British sub-culture of the ’70s and  ’80s this sofa has a multifaceted personality. It can either be the statement two-seater with long faux-fur and Westwood-esque tartan or it can come in an array of block-coloured Kvadrat fabrics to give a pop to any interior. It is available in a number of configurations that can be presented together or separately.

The collaboration for this project brings together both the origins of Gufram and its signature commitment to radical design, and Atelier Biagetti’s unique approach that taps into the human psyche and re-elaborates its findings to create new atmospheres and sensations. Together this combination generates an environment in which the objects become characters in a familiar scene initiating a bizarre case of deja-vu, as if it were the set of a well known film or a place hidden in distant memory. The setting of this scene is the discotheque, the night club, the dance hall – whatever your name for it, it is the most popular place for performance and self-expression in contemporary life – not many people perform on stage but in our thousands we flock to these places on a Saturday night to let our hair down and throw some moves.
